Canada Worse than 3rd World Countries when it comes to Mobile Data Access

From Tom Purves:

And all levels of government say that “ICT competitiveness is key factor in Canada’s future economic prosperity. Ya. Right. I would like to say that Canada is a 3rd world country when it comes to Mobile ICT, except you can clearly see from this chart that even *Rwanda* has orders of magnitude better Mobile Data service than Canada.

The graphic is shocking.

  1. I’m calling you out. I checked the links for all three providers for their data plans, and your numbers are completely, utterly, flat out wrong.

You make claims for rates that simply don’t exist anywhere in their pricing plan. All three providers offer 1 Gig Data/Voice plans for $100 or lower a month. Bell offers an unlimited data monthly option under $100 a month.

If you’re going to go on a crusade, get your numbers right.

  2. Canticle thanks for the comment. You will note that: 1. The graph and the calculations were created by Tom Purves, not I. 2. That this data is now seven months old and I know for one that the Bell unlimited plan did not exist (or at least not published) at the time.

I recommend that you leave your comments on Tom’s original post or on his recent update, and encourage him to update his graph with the latest information. It would also be great if you could provide Tom with links to the specific plans you describe.

Don’t you love the fact that we have the technology to have this conversation?

  3. I just got a SMS from Rogers that they going to apply long-distance rates on top of my current air time rate to all long-distance incoming calls.
    This is just ridicules.
In Canada we have worse mobile service in the world and this is not a joke. Most developing countries have lower price rate for much better quality mobile service. I will vote for anyone on next election who can promise that we will have the mobile service provider that can deliver high quality service with a reasonable price rate. There is no one country in Europe has so high price rate and so pure quality!!!
